MOSCOW'S FULL-SCALE WAR AGAINST UKRAINE: «THE QUIET OCCUPATION» — SYSTEMATIC DEFORMATION OF INFORMATIONAL ENVIRONMENT OF ATTACKED COUNTRY
With the author’s permission we keep publishing the selected fragments of Oksana Zabuzhko (Оксана Забужко)‘s book “And I’m getting into a tank again…” (first published in 2016).
[...] this kind of knowledge - [our true history] - can’t be provided by a show on the “Russia-1” TV channel [this article of the compilation was written in April, 2012 — Radio Lemberg]; it won’t be provided by the crowds of the paid “media-Varangians” who push forward their own ideas about the “Ukrainian” television and impose their vision of “Ukraine” or its people on the audience, thus preventing us from seeing who we are.
And we’ve got no other mainstream information resources for the analysis of our social problems, only the Internet’s left, the very edge...
So this is our real, “quiet” occupation; it’s much more serious than any other existing “regime”, be it the one of Kuchma or Yanukovych: it is the inability of the whole society to see itself and the things that are happening to us.
For the ability to see requires the constantly active, independent informational space of our own — and that’s what had been slowly pulled away from our hands during the last decade [the author describes the years between 2001-2012, according to the date when the article was written — Radio Lemberg], pulled away with next to no resistance from any Ukrainian authorities (no matter how many politicians would take the wheel and leave it later)…
They were pulling it away from us until we were left with the raw scrap from our northern neighbor, the substance showing nothing but the same “noble” faces that are dancing in their “live shows” according to the Muscovites’ tune – that’s the only lasting series “made in Ukraine”. They don’t give a damn about the life and activities of the plebs in their audience. [...]
